The Nature&People Foundation, home to the Urban Biodiversity Project, is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between urban development and nature conservation. Founded by Juan Costa, Teo García Egea, and Antonio Beltrán—the team behind Greenville—the foundation is supported by a key partnership with the law firm Mishcon de Reya.
Our goal is to promote biodiversity in cities, ensuring that environmental sustainability aligns with social and economic progress. Through strategic partnerships, we empower cities and companies to create thriving, resilient communities where nature and people coexist in harmony.
MISSION
- To advance investments in nature recovery for the good of cities and its communities.
- By fostering collaboration, we aim to connect biodiversity with social and economic goals, ensuring that nature plays a vital role in sustainable urban development.
- To achieve this, we have developed a Standard that empowers cities to align their investments in biodiversity with the specific needs of their communities, promoting long-term resilience and prosperity.
VISION
- We envision nature at the heart of urban life, with cities as hubs for nature-based solutions, building resilience to global challenges—climate change, social inequality, and economic instability.
VALUES
- Sustainability, innovation, and collaboration: Our core values reflect a commitment to these key principles.
- Greener urban spaces: We are passionate about creating more liveable urban environments through nature-based solutions.
- Community benefit: Our solutions positively impact communities socially, economically, and environmentally, fostering economic prosperity for all.
- Strong partnerships and new collaborations: We foster public-private collaboration, working closely with local governments, businesses, and communities—and exploring new ways to create partnerships—to drive meaningful change in urban biodiversity.
- Bridging the Funding gap in environmental projects through public-private collaboration: We actively encourages the private sector to engage with public organizations and authorities, championing collaborative approaches to sustainability. By incentivizing private companies to join forces with government entities, we aim to close this funding gap, unlocking the potential of public-private partnerships (PPPs) to address today’s environmental challenges.
